Happy Halloween! Our son has been looking forward to this fun Holiday, and, as always, we want to ensure his safety! That's why we went to www.familywatchdog.us . This is an absolutely awesome, free website! We typed in our address to check and find out who the local sex offenders are. (The closest is just 1.14 miles away, and there is another who is 1.6 miles away.) This is especially important to do on Halloween, as it is the only night of the year that kids are encouraged to knock on the doors of strangers. And, you never know who is out there, hiding in the disguise of a friendly neighbor...
We're going to be headed down to our neighborhood lake for a Halloween cookout this evening! The temperature in Nokesville VA should be perfect (in the low 60's) and the sky will be crystal clear for all of the kids (both young & "youngish"). We'll roast hot dogs on the bonfire, gaze at the lake, chat with our neighors, and exclaim over all of the cute costumes. Then the kids will head en masse on a trick or treating hay ride! Fun & Safety, all rolled into one!
Many municipalities in the Washington DC area (not ours, we live in the "sticks") are banning registered sex offenders from doing any Halloween decorating. They have been ordered to keep their porch lights off, blinds closed, and not give out candy. This should also help to keep our children safe from the true predators of the night. However, if you, like us, want to make sure your little ones are safe, do the research. Plug in the address you're going to be trick or treating from, and make sure your children know who to be on the look out for.

Manassas Virginia Rotary...What a Great Group!
Up until a couple of years ago, I had heard of Rotary, but didn't know exactly what it was. Well, I was really amazed to find out that it is a group of business people who are very concerned with helping out their community. In Manassas, the first project I became aware of, concerned people within the City of Manassas who didn't have water. I hadn't realized, despite growing up here, that there was anyone in the city who didn't have public water. So, the Rotarians raised money, and worked diligently to ensure that they could get as many people as possible connected to public water.
Today, the Rotary's project was to clean up trash along Bull Run River, which borders Prince William County. Jim and our son met with the rest of the group at 7:3o am, had breakfast, and headed out to the River to collect garbage. It is so awesome to be part of such a caring community! I really love that our family and business are in a position to be able to contribute to our home town. The people (who we are fortunate to also call friends) are so giving. We feel blessed to be able to live in Manassas VA, and to be part of the lives of so many wonderful members of our community!

Life In Our Community
We love living in Prince William County Virginia! This is the most wonderful community to raise a family in! Jim and I both grew up here. The Western (Manassas) area was my backyard, and the Eastern end (Woodbridge) was Jim's area in which to roam. Therefore, a compromise was in order when we were married, and we chose the rural area in the middle, Nokesville. So, between the two of us, we consider ourselves experts on our County.
Prince William County Virginia has so much to offer! We're located between the Blue Ridge Mountains (just over an hour to the west). Bordered by the scenic Bull Run River and the Potomac, with the Atlantic Ocean about 3 hours to the east. The Metropolitan area of Washington DC is just 23 miles down Rt. 66. (an easy drive as long as we avoid rush hour). We have access to the Virginia Rail Express whith 3 stops in and around Manassas for those who wish to ride the train and commute.
Our family has so much fun being part of this community! Old Town Manassas features many quaint shops, as well as the Harris Pavilion. The Pavilion is the center of activity on weekends. We have free dances every other Saturday night during the summer, ice cream socials on Sunday afternoons along with concerts, wine tastings, train festivals, and many other wholesome family activities. And for major concerts and world class artists, we have Nissan Pavilion, located right here in Prince William!
On the Eastern end of the county, our favorite hang out is Tim's River Shore Restaurant. Sitting on the beach at Tim's, watching the sunset, and heading out for a pontoon ride on the Potomac is like going to a Jimmy Buffet concert. It's a tiny vacation that feels like a true getaway. They even hide "treasure" in the sand so the kids can be totally occupied with their search.
If you would like any additional info on our "home town" we would love to have the opportunity to share it with you. It's the perfect time to relocate here. Have a Great Weekend!

Real Estate Consultation Comes Full Circle
We're having such an interesting week here at Bassette! Our Real Estate Group has been truely enjoying the process of educating our clients to help them learn how to pay off their homes in as little as 1/2 to 1/3 of the time! It's absolutely awesome to be able to look into their eyes and to see how relieved they become with the knowledge that the won't have to be tied to their mortgage and debt forever. We feel that we have now become a full service provider of Real Estate information. We help our clients to get into the largest debt of their lives, and now we also help them to get out of that debt! If you are interested in learning how this amazing process works, just send us an email. We would love to have the opportunity to consult with you on this innovative method.

Finally, A True Autumn Weekend in Virginia!
Autumn has finally arrived in Northern Virginia! The temperatures are brisk, and as Jim says...it's Football weather! Last weekend we spent at beautiful 4304 Mountain Road in Haymarket, on the Custom Builder's Parade of Homes, to benefit the Ronald McDonald House charity.
This weekend promises to be a bit more relaxed. Our family will be having fun at a weenie roast in Nokesville on John Bouchard's farm tomorrow. We are looking forward to spending time with other Manassas Rotarians (Jim is an active member of the Rotary in Old Town Manassas). It should be a blast....roasting hot dogs over an open fire, fishing in the Bouchard pond, and going on hayrides!
On Sunday we'll be heading to rural Fauquier County to go pumpkin picking and through a "scary" corn maze in Catlett with our son, brilliant four year old nephew and his wonderful mom & dad! Then Jim and our boy, Trent want to watch their Redskins defeat the Packers and the Patriots destroy the cowboys! What a great way to spend our anniversary!!!
You may be wondering, what about Real Estate? We'd love to have the opportunity to help you if you're thinking of buying or selling a home anywhere in Northern Virginia! It's the perfect weekend for house hunting anywhere in our surrounding area (Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Loudoun or Stafford County Virgnia) We would absolutely love to hear from you! Just give us a call or send a quick email to Peggy@BassetteHomes.com with any questions.
